Chapter 9: a Giant Tail
Me, Madison, Reagan, my dad and my mom were training in the park when it started for us. We were doing push-ups, dad doing them faster than the rest of us. We had let Arnold run lose to enjoy the other dogs here but we couldn't watch him because as soon as we did, dad yelled, "ATTENTION!" We all lined up side by side waiting for our instructions. "All right, this family may have lost the hunt for the clues, but we will win every other competition from here on, understand?" "Yes sir!" we all screamed. "So what are we going to do?" "Win!" "I can't here you!" "WIN! WIN! WIN!" we chanted that word as part of our training. I almost gave up from breathlessness, but dad would be disapointed if I did so I kept saying "win" and training. I heard Arnold bark. I looked up and saw our little pitbull running toward us with something in his mouth. "Hey dad," I said as I got up and headed to the dog. "Arnold has something in his mouth." He dropped it and ran off. I pick it up and felt lots of dog drool. I wiped it off and read the title. A Spell Book for the Young and Aspiring. Or did it say Asprin? What ever, I thought. "Hey, dad, look what Arnold found." Dad looked up and quickly read the title. "Magic, phooey. Just throw it away." I took the book and went over to my bag, stuffing the book inside. Later on, when it was lights-out, I pulled the book from my bag, grabbed a flashlight, and read the contents page. I love magic, so I thought this book would teach a few tricks. I found a section on making things grow. It read, first, find a packet of jelly. I went downstairs to find a packet of sugar-free flavorless jel-o. that's the only kind my mom and dad buy. Second, get a big bowl of water. I got our mixing bowl and filled it with water. I hope mom and dad don't wake up, I thought. Third, mix jelly and water in bowl with a chicken spleen. that was a weird ingrediant, but luckinly we kill chickens fresh, so we have a lot of parts we can't eat. I found a spleen and began mixing. when I had finished it looked disgusting. Fourth, say these magic words: I said the magic words aloud, "Opyn, simphonium Mon Blud." The mixture glowed and turned green. there were more words. Finally, to grow, you must eat the concoction known by most scientists and sorcerers as Monster Blood. I was hessitant, but I was going to eat it. I heard someone coming and hid the bowl at my feet. Dad came down the stairs and saw me. "What are you doing up?" he asked. "Just...getting a drink," I said and got a cup, filled it with water and chugged it down. "Okay," Dad said as he did the same. He went back to bed and i reached down to pick up the bowl, but saw Arnold eating it. He looked at me and I saw his body shift--in size!
