Come, Krystal, follow me, I hear someone call.
"No, go away," I say, swatting at the air. Nothing's there. I peek out of my blanket and look around. The room is empty.
Come, Krystal, leave this place, the voice says. It's- It's in my head. No. NO. This can not be happening. The rumors aren't true, they aren't, they aren't! I keep frantically talking to myself, convincing me that I'm okay. I'm normal. Look, the voices are gone. It was just something leftover from my dream, that's all.
Calm down, Krystal, and follow me. It will be good. This time, I just sigh. I might as well go. It's not like I'm leaving anyone behind. And if I get lost somwhere and starve... who cares? Not me.
"Come, Edgar," I call to my cat. I name him after Poe. I shove my feet into my slippers, grab a fluffy black sweater, and slip out the back door.
This way, Krystal, the voice says. I look around. Just then, a strong wind blows by, and a young tree near me tilts to the West. The direction of the forest. I shrug my shoulders and walk that way. Edgar whines and sits down. "Come, Edgar, it's okay," I say softly. I feel an odd calm come over me. Edgar reluctantly follows me, and I scoop him up, tucking him in my sweater so he doesn't get too cold.
