Lez get right into it.
don't make infallible characters: they need flaws to be interesting.
perfect characters are boring characters
give them some quirks, maybe something kinda weird about them
every character being the best at ten different things is not accurate
realistically, people can only be the best at ONE THING
it's rare that someone is extremely proficient at TWO THINGS.
especially if those two things are wildly different (ex. best artist AND thief)
also it's not a competition of whose character is better
be inclusive of lgbtq+ characters and ships
have something in common with your characters, it's easier to write them that way
characters are more interesting when they're not the best at everything, contrary to popular belief
give your characters flaws.
get to know all characters so you can portray them accurately
categorizing your characters can also help in really fleshing out their personality*
portraying every character as extremely pretty or handsome is not accurate
don't say "no mary sues" and then make a mary sue character (or gary sue. or nonbinary sue.)
every character being tall is not accurate
use thesauruses (it gives you dank words that can be more descriptive and more your writing interesting)
make your characters make mistakes
please portray characters of different races accurately**
how is anyone supposed to relate to your character when they're the best at 10 different careers
not all characters know how to fight
not everyone is born knowing exactly how to use their powers
not everyone is born knowing they even have powers
*such as which hogwarts house from harry potter they would be in (ex. Gryffindor).
such as knowing which dungeons and dragons alignment they are (ex. chaotic neutral).
such as knowing which myers-briggs type indicator they would be (ex. INTP).
**ex. not all Mexicans are named Juan
Asian characteristics doesn't mean Chinese characteristics
+and it's offensive if you put "pale skin, black hair, almond shaped eyes" as "Asian facial features"
There will definitely be more added later, and if you have your own tips, please submit them!
