They'd been walking for hours. Or, it sure felt like it. Mira didn't know how Ericka and Marianna were, but she was exhausted.
"How long have we been walking?" She asked.
"About thirty minutes." Ericka answered. "Why do you ask?"
"My feet hurt and I feel like I'm about to collapse and fall asleep on the next not spiky patch of grass." Mira replied.
She heard Marianna and Ericka sigh.
"Fine. We'll stop for a minute." Ericka said, disappointed to stop walking.
Mira was relieved to find a patch of not spiky grass close by. As she was about to walk onto it, Ericka suddenly shouted out in alarm.
"TRAP!" She shouted.
Mira froze and stared at her.
"What?" She asked, confused.
"Look," Marianna started walking closer. "It's to much of a square to be natural. It's probably man-made."
Ericka nodded, impressed with Marianna's skill of telling what was a trap and what wasn't. Mira, however, was impressed with any of this.
"Watch," Said Ericka, approaching.
She stamped her foot on the patch of grass and pulled it back as the ground suddenly dropped. Mira and Marianna were quite surprised.
"How did that even get there?" Mira asked in an angry tone.
"Made to capture runaway citizens." Ericka said.
"Isn't that creepy." Mira said, rolling her eyes.
Marianna shot Mira a "That's rude" look and Mira returned it with a "Whatever" look.
"I apologize about her. She gets grumpy when she has to walk for too long." Marianna said.
"I'm guessing after that little surprise we're all ready to move again."
"Whatever." Said Mira, her voice shaking slightly.
They continued walking and, though she would never admit it, Mira was glad to be moving again.
(Traps were studied in one of the projects for Marianna's school, just so y'all aren't confused ;) )
