The Council walked into the dimly lit room and sat at the round table. Maria, Sam, Darius, Kari, Aubrey, and Tom sat in their designated seats. There were lots of shadows but the Council wasn't worried because of their powers. Confident and powerful, not good people to have as enemies. The meeting began with a review of the past months developments. How close they were to taking down Dr. Marcel, the progress made while training the younger members, updates on the guns an amunition, and all that other nonsense. They consulted on the food supply then on their run in with the Counter Attack. The Counter Attack was a group of serum induced goons designed to hunt down any rouges experriments, such as my self and the Council.
"Any progress with tracking down the *Impossibles?" Tom asked.
"We've been able to identify a few more and are setting a watch on them." Aubrey replied.
"Who's left?" Darius asked.
"The Twins and Phantom." Maria answered.
"Any idea what the Twins powers are?" Kari questioned.
"We believe the older one is able to control fire and water and one other element and the younger one is some sort of super genius and flyer." Sam clarified.
"And the Phantom?" Kari again.
"Still unclear, though there was another situation north of here." Maria said.
"He's getter closer." Aubrey said in a contemplative tone.
"We should seek him out. The Phantom has been in nearly every place we've been targeting and who knows what kind of information he might be able to get us." Tom suggested.
"Where do we start?" Sam inquired.
"BY finding him. We should let him know we're looking for him-" Kari began but was abruptly cut off.
"Unless, of course, he's looking for you." my disembodied voice echoed through the room.
Every one jumped. I can't say I blamed them. It's not every day you hear voices and find out you're not crazy.
"Who's there?" Darius said.
"Why, the Phantom, obviously." I said in a falsely offended voice.
I felt Sam probing around with his mind and chuckled.
"I"m afraid that trick doesn't work on me, honey."
Sam leaned over and whispered in Maria's ear," She's everywhere." Then he turned and looked at her and gasped.
"What?!" she exclaimed and felt her face.
"She's inside you." Sam uttered in amazement.
Maria's expression changed from startled to stunned.
"What do you want?" Tom asked.
"It's not what I want, it's what you want." I said mysteriously.
"And what do we want?" Aubrey asked in a bored tone.
"You want help. YOu want my skills so you can get to our...mutual enemies." I said.
"What are your skills, exactly?" Maria asked.
"Here, why don't I give you a demonstration." A figure appeared in the dark corner and walked over.
"Go ahead," my voice emitted from it's mouth. "Shake my hand."
Tom, since he was the closest, reached out and tried to shake it but his hand went through nothingness.
"You're an illusionist?" he inquired.
"I'm not, but Maria is." I said with a chuckle as the figure disappeared.
Then I whispered into Sam's head,"She's quite pretty, hmm?"
He jumped and looked around.
"How did you do that?" he asked.
"I borrowed a bit of your skill. That's what I do. I absorb." I explained.
"That could come in handy." Kari said matter of fact-ly to the rest of the Council.
"What's your proposition?" Tom asked.
"I will give you two choices. One, you can be my ally and I will help you destroy your enemies or two, I become your enemy and you regret not accepting my offer. It's your choice, but choose quickly. MY offer stands for a limited time only." I became silent and they waited for me to say something.
By the expressions on their faces they had concluded that I had left.
"What should we do?" Sam asked.
"Isn't it obvious? We accept." Maria decided.
"What if she's just trying to get in so she could blow us up?" Kari countered.
"She'll blow us up anyway if we don't accept." Darius pointed out.
"We could kill her." Aubrey suggested.
"And how are we supposed to that? We don't even know what she looks like let alone where she is." Tom said in an exasperated tone.
"Good point." Kari agreed.
"So we accept?" Sam asked.
"Yes. We'll have to-" Maria began but I cut her off.
"Good." I said as I rematerialized in front of them.
Maria gaped at me.
"Krista Cummings?" she said in amazement."You're Phantom?"
"Obviously." I said with a smile.
"How did you escape?" she asked.
"Sorry, a magician never reveals her secrets."
I sat down in an empty seat and said," Now back to business."
