I was exhausted but I had to push myself to keep on fighting.
"Three against one? Isn't that a bit unfair?" He grinned. "How about I even the odds?"
With the wand in his hand which was made of gold with a black crystal at the top wrote some runes and a cold wind blew at me.
Normally I would have dodged that but I was too tired to move and my whole body, except for my head, froze.
I couldn't move and it felt really cold.
"Now we are even. Two weaklings of you and one strongest Magician of me." He laughed even though it wasn't funny.
"I've had it. Try and fight this." The girl that I still didn't know said and threw one of those black boxes she had collected earlier.
Zoltar jumped back to avoid the box but the moment the cubical object touched the ground it exploded into flames sending the Magician flying.
The blast hit me as well and I too got sent flying but once I landed back on the ground the ice smashed.
"Is he...Dead?" Rose asked as she looked at him from afar.
I hoped he was but the guy got back up on his feet and came closer once more. But not on feet.
He was flying!
"Alchemy huh? I had forgotten how powerful it can be!" Zoltar said with the evilish grin that didn't seem to be able to go away.
"There's more from that came from!" The girl yelled at him.
"Whatever, I don't feel like fighting you anymore. I just wanted to tell you that don't bother finding your cousin." He said. "But don't worry, we will take care of him. My master is surely working on his Change of Heart!"
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked.
"You don't have to know. I will wipe you out now so that you won't get in the way!" Zolt staZoltarrted writing Runes in a swift but careful manner.
This time it seemed like he was trying to write a whole paragraph of Runes.
The purple symbols started to spin around him as he wrote them.
"This is what they call, Crisis Magic!" Is said.
"Crisis Magic?" Rose asked.
"There are 5 types of Magic. Regular Magic, High Magic, Advanced Magic, Crisis Magic and Final Magic!" I explained. "Final Magic is almost impossible to achieve because it requires the memory of countless runes and it needs a lot of ability in Magic but the results are destructive. Crisis Magic on the other hand is not as hard but it still requires amazing skill and it has deadly results."
"Does that mean...We are doomed?" Rose asked.
"Not yet. Just one mistake in Crisis and Final Magic and the whole spell is ruined. If we can just try and make him lose his focus, we will be able to avoid getting killed." I said.
"But how do we reach him? This guy is way up high!" The girl said.
"We can do it!" I shouted. "I can't die yet. I have a lot more to see in this world."
With this both girls stayed silent.
"I'll do my best to create plants in order to get you up." Rose said.
"And I will used one of my bombs to give you a jumping boost and some fire in order to give him the final attack!" The girl said.
"Alright!" I started running as Rose used her plant Crys to Crysiscreate a staircase made of vines.
I started climbing it as the stairs formed ahead of me.
"I'm at my limit!" Rose shouted and the other girl got close to the staircase and threw a bomb with power I didn't it was possible for a human.
I jumped at the end of the stairs as the bomb exploded right below me.
The explosion shot me up and now I was able to reach Zoltar who was nearly done with finishing the spell.
As I was heading up, my fire Crysis absorbed the flames and I got some of my power back.
It wasn't much but I knew I could do this with just a little strength.
Flames appeared around my sword as I prepared the final attack.
I sliced but Zoltar flew higher and my sword didn't reach him!
How could he move while writing Runes? Moving while writing complex magic seems impossible!
I started falling down but Rose's vines caught me before I could hit the sand.
"I failed." I looked down unable to face them.
Tears rolled down my cheeks. They would die it was my fault.
"It's over." I said as I looked at Zoltar writing the final Rune.
"Divine Judgement!" Zoltar shouted.
And a magic circle appeared below our feet.
"If we escape the circle we can survive!" Rose said.
"It's no use. Even with a speed Crysis you can't be fast enough to escape a Magic Circle from a Crisis Magic." I told her.
Light appeared around Zoltar's wand and he was ready to launch the magic spell when a beam of purple light hit him out of knowhere and knocked him down on the sand.
The Magic Circle vanished and the pressure from the Crisis Magic was now gone.
Still, I couln't proccess what had happened.
I looked up and saw an old man with long white hair that reached his back along with a beard that reached right above his feet.
He was holding a cane which also had a black crystal attouched to it, making it obvious that he was also a Magician.
"You dissapoint me my student! How dare you use such Magic on something so unworthy of it." The Magician was talking slowly but with rage in his words. "If you wish to kill someone as weak as them, do it with Regular Magic!"
"I-I'm sorry Master." Zoltar said.
If that was his master then that meant that this old man was the one who killed my mother.
Still, I couldn't dare to stand against him or try to take revenge.
He emitted such a powerfull aura that it seemed like he could blast you away with just a look.
If I tried to fight him I will probably end up dead. If the student was no much for us then the master will probably be a lot stronger.
"You are to go back to the castle and train more. You will not be permitted to leave until you can kill a Crysis User with a single blast of Regular Magic." The old man said and they both vanished. Teleporting back to wherever that castle was.
I fell on my knees in relief.
I was SO glad for not getting killed by crazy Magicians!
"Well...That happened." Rose said.
"I don't have time to feel happy for this being over. I still have to find my cousin before my aunt and uncle come and try to kill me!" The girl said.
"Wouldn't one bomb be enough to have your aunt and uncle run away?" I asked her.
"You don't understand. They have a lot more power than Alchemic Bombs." The girl looked away.
"Well, we'll help you! We'll go into different Mazes and train in order to get stronger. And then we can go fight those Magicians and get your cousin back!" I said.
"I told you that I don't want your help." She said.
"C'mon! You saw them. They are out of our league! But together we have a chance!" I tried to convince her.
There was a pause for her to think the advantages and the dissadvantages of travelling with others. The advantages seemed to win.
"I'm Naomi and I will let you come with me as long as you don't slow me down and you have to promise that it will be until I get back my cousin. After that I will owe you nothing and we won't ever meet again!" She said.
"If you are okay with this." I grinned.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She blushed in rage and started walking in a quick pace once again.
