Thank you, Irene, for giving me the one-shot.
This was.. different. Most certainly interesting. Of course, most people wouldn’t expect their girlfriends’ brother to be looking for them. Of course, this is Ben we’re talking about. He’s probably wondering where Naidia is. However, it has been one of the only things people have been talking about- how the captain, her lieutenant, and Elena are all on a mission to find Duchess Regina- for weeks. It gets a bit annoying after a while, though. But he’s nice.
“Leon, do you know when Naidia will be back?”
“When she finds Regina.”
“Do you think it will be soon?”
Silence. I know that both of us don’t want to face the truth; that she could possibly end up dead on this, or she could also go missing. That wouldn’t be good at all.
She was the person who I never meant to fall in love with. She was my accidental romance that always happens in those fairytales. Like in those fairytales where the 2 characters never intend to fall in love- possibly even hating each other in the beginning- and then end up marrying in the end. Like that, minus the marriage part.
We had some really funny times. Like the time when, for April Fools Day, we pranked Marnie, and Ben.
Leon and Naidia are standing in a hallway, laughing. They are standing right by a door, as if waiting for someone to wake up. As soon as the door opens, Ben walks out, covered in glitter.
“Happy April Fools Day!” They shout while they laugh.
“Good day to you too, but seriously, glitter?!?!”
“Yes. It is April Fools Day Ben, we need to celebrate!”
“Fine. But I will be getting you back for this.”
“Goodbye to you too, seeing as how we are going to go to Leons’, to see what happened to Marnie.”
As they walk out, they can hear Ben muttering about glitter and putting underwear into a ice block.
Ben had gotten us back, too. He had put hair-remover into Naidias’ shampoo bottle, causing a complete pranking war to happen. Marnie had gotten me back also, by replacing all the clothes in my closet with doll clothes. That was funny also.
Or when she had been very upset once. She had gotten into trouble for fighting with one of the older boy students. That had most certainly been interesting for her to explain to me. Apparently, he had started yelling at her in English, and she didn’t know what he was saying. He had started punching her, and she had fought back. They had both ended up in trouble for that, although Naidia has also ended up with a black eye. She had to explain that to Ben, and Ben didn’t take that very well. At all. Which had led up to him and I having to look through the entire school to find her. She had been in the art room with the art teacher, who had been talking with her. She had explained everything else, and she went back to school the next week. That had been a interesting time.
Or our first kiss. That was most certainly interesting.
Leon is walking around a tree, while Naidia is hanging upside down from one of the branches. Naidia looks bored, while Leon looks lost in thought.
“You know, Naidia, that we have been together for 3 months, and we haven’t kissed yet.”
“And what exactly are you trying to say??”
“I’m not trying to say anything, just stating that.”
“Knowing you, what you were trying to say is that you want to kiss me.”
“Leon, just tell me. Don’t try to play games with my head.”
He hesitates for a minute. Then, stopping where he was, he kisses Naidia on the lips. They stay like that for a minute, and then break apart.
Oh, that day. That had been a perfect day. One of the days that stuck out in my memory the most, the one vivid one. One of the perfect memories, no matter who said it. The one I know that Naidia and I will always remember.
That was the beginning of it all. The beginning of all the days filled with laughter, tears, smoke, pranks, everything. The beginning of finding out about what she did. The beginning of knowing exactly where she got the scars on her wrists from.
But knowing where she got them from made it worse. You see, she never exactly told me where she got them from, but after I asked Ben and Alton, and neither of them knew, I could inference some things. Those were the worst sort of days: the days with having to find Naidia, trying to find where her newest hiding spot was, knowing that the damage had already been done to her. Knowing that she couldn’t heal from this. When all of it began, she was only 13. Two years ago. She had been doing this for two years, and no matter how many times I begged her to stop, she kept on doing it. Ben didn’t know, Alton didn’t know, no one knew. It had started after Lorela left, so she didn’t know about that yet either. And, funnily enough, Lorela never knew about it.
But lying, no matter with me being a thief, was something Naidia could excel at. She always said that she was fine, and I’m afraid that Alton and Ben actually believed her. It was quite easy, sometimes, to know she wasn’t okay. She never looked the best. Bloodshot eyes, dark bags under her eyes, tearstained face. Never okay. Anyone with eyes could see that. She tried to be strong, I knew. So tall, yet so small. So healthy, yet so scarred. So beautiful, yet so broken. So strong, yet so weak. So kind, yet so terrified.
That sort of thing should never happen to anyone. But it did. It happened to her, and in some ways, it happened to me.
With her, it was always Ben or I going to find her. I was always the person who comforted her while she was crying. I was always the person who would follow her, just to know how she was doing. I was the person who would beg her to stop, tell her to stop doing it to herself, try to help her so she would stop. It never worked.
But I guess that’s just the way it is with accidental romances.
Mods, PLEASE let thsi through!!!
